🎓 Advanced methodological training in clinical research (Biostatech & INiBICA)
The proper design of a statistical analysis plan is a key element in any clinical research project, as it guarantees the validity of the results, optimizes the use of data, and allows reliable conclusions to be drawn that contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge. Training in this area is therefore essential for researchers and clinicians involved in biomedical studies.
With the aim of strengthening these skills, the Cádiz Institute for Biomedical Research and Innovation (INiBICA) organized a new edition of the online course «Methodology in Clinical Research – Advanced Level» in collaboration with Biostatech, the entity responsible for delivering this specialized training. The course was led by Sergio Antón Fuente, advisor to Biostatech’s Advisory, Training, and R&D&I Department.
This training was primarily aimed at clinicians with experience in research activities and researchers with basic knowledge of clinical research who were interested in gaining a deeper understanding of the aspects of statistical analysis applied to biomedical research.
The course, held in two sessions on March 26 and April 10, 2025, covered advanced content distributed across the following modules:
Module 1: Designing a statistical analysis plan. Aspects to consider.
• Basic concepts of hypothesis testing
• Introduction to Epidat
• Summary of tests
• Case studies (Qualitative variables and quantitative variables)
• Resolution of doubts and cases raised
Module 2: Calculation of sample size and most common tools.
• Fundamental concepts for sample size estimation
• Examples of sample size estimation (Proportion, mean, and tests)
• Most common errors in sample size estimation
• Resolution of questions and cases raised
The training offered an applied and rigorous view of data design and analysis in clinical studies, contributing to the development of methodological skills among INiBICA professionals.
