Stat Wars: The Awakening of Data

FECYT project for the dissemination of statistics

The Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) has awarded the dissemination project: Stat Wars, The Awakening of Data, which will be developed throughout 2017, with the collaboration of Biostatech.

This project aims to bring statistics closer to ESO and high school students, and is promoted by the Biostatistics Network: Biostatnet (http://eio.usc.es/pub/biostatnet/).

The original idea comes from the Carlos III University of Madrid, specifically from Rosa Elvira Lillo Rodríguez, from the Department of Statistics of this University.

The methodology used in the STAT WARS activity has been designed under the approach The project is a “learning by playing” game, specifically in the format of a “contest-talk”. The approach consists of proposing different games to young people in which they can participate individually or in groups, and whose objective is to solve real problems that can be addressed using statistical techniques. The idea is to create an interactive atmosphere that encourages the participation of attendees, fun and critical awareness regarding data management. Participants will be able to learn, from teachers and students, how quantitative analysis is necessary to digest all the information that is created in our environment, as well as perceive how statistics are present in all areas of life (Society, Science, Cinema, etc.).

The project will be coordinated by the Interdisciplinary Group of Biostatistics of the University of Santiago de Compostela: GRIDECMB, with the participation of the Biostatnet Network and the Carlos III University of Madrid. Biostatech will actively collaborate in the activities to be developed in Galicia.

This project is funded by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology FECYT (https://www.fecyt.es/), linked to the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness. The activities will be carried out in the second half of 2017, and Biostatech and the Biostatnet Network will provide you with updated information on these activities.
