Biostatech has given this Friday, March 31, in Pontevedra, the workshop on basic statistics applied to epidemiological studies. In this mini-course, around twenty neurological researchers from all over Galicia and Asturias have participated, and it has been financed by Genzyme-Sanofi.
In this 3-hour workshop, a review of general statistical concepts has been carried out: descriptive analysis, types of variables, distributions, basic issues to take into account to carry out a good exploratory analysis, hypothesis testing, association and correlation and types of epidemiological studies. Likewise, aspects related to common statistical errors that are committed, and unfortunately, continue to be committed, in articles published in high-impact journals have been assessed.
The workshop was given by our Technical-Scientific Director: Dr. María P. Pata, who managed to convey the important role of statistics in all phases of biomedical research. Likewise, a review of the concepts necessary to carry out a critical reading of publications was carried out.
We would like to thank Genzyme-Sanofi https://www.sanofigenzyme.es/ for funding this workshop, and for its drive to bring statistics closer to biomedical professionals.
