Jesús Gutiérrez Botella presents his industrial doctorate at Biostatech
Biostatech celebrates the successful defense of the Industrial Doctorate titled “Contributions to joint modelling for longitudinal and survival data from a Bayesian perspective”, presented by Jesús Gutiérrez Botella to obtain his PhD degree from the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC).
Scientific direction and leadership
In its initial stages, the research was driven at Biostatech by our Scientific Director, Dr. María Pata, who helped orient the methodology toward its application in the biomedical sector. Likewise, the development of the thesis was guided and academically led by Dr. Carmen Armero, Professor at the University of Valencia and renowned expert in Bayesian statistics. Thanks to this collaborative effort, complex biostatistical models have been successfully transformed into solutions with high applied value.
We also wish to express our sincere gratitude to the GRID-BDS group (Group of Research in Data Science and BioData Science), whose support, collaboration, and continuous backing were fundamental to the development of this research. Furthermore, this thesis stands as a tribute to its initial academic director, Dr. Carmen Cadarso, co-founder and promoter of Biostatech.
Scientific contribution and clinical application
The thesis addresses the formulation and development of Bayesian joint models (joint modelling) applied to the study of heart failure. Specifically, the research comprehensively analyzes cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular mortality patterns in patients undergoing Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy (CRT).
Driven by the scientific guidance from the project’s leadership, the main contribution of this study lies in the design of an advanced analytical tool for real clinical application, key to optimizing personalized medical management and supporting decision-making based on high-precision statistical evidence.
Recognition and institutional collaboration
At Biostatech, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to the Galician Innovation Agency (GAIN) and the Xunta de Galicia for the funding granted through the 2021 Industrial Doctorates program. This institutional support is crucial in backing knowledge transfer initiatives driven within the Galician business ecosystem.
We send our warmest congratulations to Jesús Gutiérrez Botella on reaching this academic and professional milestone, and give special congratulations to Dr. María Pata and Dr. Carmen Armero for their excellent and rigorous leadership.
